New learning modules on the Social and Solidarity Economy by ILO & UNTFSSE

Following the historic adoption of the United Nations General Assembly resolution on “Promoting the Social and Solidarity Economy for Sustainable Development” (A/RES/77/281 ) on 18 April 2023, the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on the Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) has launched an open, online, awareness-raising package, created by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and International Training Center of the ILO (ITCILO) with funding from the Government of Luxembourg.

The tools will allow diverse stakeholders including UN Member States and intergovernmental bodies, UN entities, regional governments and organizations, policymakers, academia and think tanks, development banks, civil society (NGOs, foundations, voluntary groups, etc.), private sector and media to get acquainted with basic concepts and practices of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE).

The course consists of four modules and serves as both an introduction to the Social and Solidarity Economy as a whole, as well as key issues in its relation to the Decent Work and Sustainable Development agenda(s). The full package is available in six languages.

• Module 1: The SSE as a game changer: understanding the concept and its building blocks – available in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish 
• Module 2: The social and solidarity economy as a tool for decent work and inclusion – available in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish 
• Module 3: Follow-up to the resolution concerning decent work and the social and solidarity economy – available in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish 
• Module 4: The pivotal role of the SSE in advancing inclusive and sustainable development – available in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish 

About the Cooperative, Social and Solidarity Economy Unit (COOP/SSE) at the International Labour Organisation (ILO)

The Cooperative, Social and Solidarity Economy Unit of the ILO promotes the development of a strong and resilient social and solidarity economy (SSE) as a means of achieving decent work and social justice. Established in 1920, the Unit holds a unique mandate within the United Nations system to promote cooperatives and the broader SSE.
